Summer @ Your Library

Summer @ Your Library (formerly Summer Reading Club) is a free summer reading program that encourages children and teens to read over the school break in order to prevent summer reading loss, when students who don't read can lose up to three months of reading achievement. Summer reading loss is cumulative. By the end of fifth grade, children who lose reading skills over the summer will be three years behind their classmates. SRC offers incentives such as fun prizes and activities in exchange for reading.

Our 2017 theme is “Build a Better World.” Participants will explore the world around them through literature, technology, arts and more. Children, teens and adults will be encouraged to read books and attend library programs that expand their horizons and help them see what is happening in our communities and beyond. Our focus for children and teens is to keep their minds active and engaged during their summer break, with incentives for reading and a wide array of programs focusing on science, technology, arts and math (STEAM), making and more. Participants will explore how they can contribute to and improve the world around them. By engaging the whole family and presenting diverse programs and books for every interest, BCPL hopes to “Build a Better World” of engaged library goers.
The Foundation for BCPL provides support for this important program. Thank you to our current sponsors: Rosedale Federal Savings and Loan and JumpZone.
