Welcome Our Newest Board Member

January 12, 2017

Please join us in welcoming our newest board member, Susan Waxter.

Susan retired from BCPL in 2013 after 10 years in Planning & Projects in the Administration and joined the Foundation Board of Directors in January 2017. She grew up in Baltimore and holds a B.A. in Economics from Smith College and an M.B.A from the University of Virginia. After 30 years working in the banking industry in several eastern cities, she returned to Baltimore in 2001, where she enrolled in the University of Maryland and earned her Masters of Library Science. Her work at BCPL mirrored her banking career, and included strategic planning, project management and data analysis. The years at BCPL were very rewarding, both professionally and personally, as she has many friends from the library world.  She also supports the library efforts of her college and the Smithsonian.

Since retirement, Susan volunteers at the Maryland Zoo and as treasurer for her homeowners’ association. She travels all over the country and the world. As of August 2015, she had visited all 50 US states. Other interests include hiking and attending concerts and movies with friends.

Why join the Foundation for BCPL?
“Very simply, I want to give back to this library for making the last ten years of my professional life so wonderful. I believe very strongly in libraries as a gathering place and a positive influence in each branch’s community.”
