READ ROVER

Read Rover, a bookmobile specializing in early childhood literacy, supports Baltimore County Public Library's mission to foster a lifelong love of reading in children with monthly visits to licensed day care providers. Foundation for Baltimore County Public Library fully funded the purchase of Read Rover.

Each month, Read Rover librarians perform a story time and help providers check out materials. The story time programs incorporate pre-reading skills which prepare the children for entering school.

The storytellers model successful techniques during the programs to teach day care providers important early literacy skills that they can then share with the children and their parents.

Themed flyers are distributed each month containing booklists, reading tips, a rhyme or fingerplay and a craft. Picture books, teacher resources, easy nonfiction, concept books, CDs, DVDs and storytelling materials are all available for checkout to further support this goal.
